(p. 305) Lexington- A town in Eastern Massachusetts, site of one of the first battles of the American Revolution; 42N, 71W. Concord- The British would march to Concord to capture weapons the militia had stored there; 43N, 72W. Fort Ticonderoga- A fort on Lake Champlain, New York; site of important battles in the American Revolution; 44N, 74W. Charlestown- A town in Massachusetts across the Charles River from Boston; the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought near there in 1775; 42N, 71W. John Hancock- 1737-1793 Patriot and president of the Continental Congress from 1775 to 1777 known for his boldly written signature on the Declaration of Independence. Paul Revere- 1735-1818 Boston Patriot and silversmith who, on the night of April 18, 1775, rode to warn the people of Lexington that British troops were coming. William Dawes-1745-1799 Patriot who rode with Paul Revere on April 18. 1775, to warn colonists that British troops were coming. John Parker- 1729-1775 Patriot captain at the battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775, where the first shots in the American Revolution were fired. Ethan Allen- 1738-1789 Leader of the “Green Mountain Boys,” the Vermont militiamen who captured fort Ticonderoga in the American Revolution. Israel Putnam- 1718-1790 Patriot general at the battle of Bunker Hill. Peter Salem- 1750?-1816 Patriot and former slave whose shot killed British Colonel Pitcairn at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
