Lesson Learned

Lesson Learned

One big lesson I have learned so far in life would be, if you are patient you will get farther in life. Impatiens could be a major setback.

It was a very snowy Saturday, I was at detention. My teacher was Mr. Slick, I was his only student. On Saturday detentions you show up at 8:00 a.m. and stay until noon.

Mr. Slick was doing his teacher work stuff, and I was drawling pictures of things blowing up. When 12: 00 rolled around we both gathered our belongings and headed towards the exit. As we approached the doors we discovered that we were snowed in. simultaneously, we both stated “I’m stuck with you!?”

Unable to open the doors due to the fact that they were pinned shut by hundreds of pounds of snow, we both returned to his classroom. Around 1:00 we both started to get hungry. We couldn’t leave, so whilst brainstorming we agreed that the cafeteria had gross food, and we didn’t want to walk all the way to the career and technology center. Suddenly, “light bulb!” we could always go to Mrs. Swartleys room!

So we started running through the school, unlocking gates and switching on lights. As we approached her classroom, I reached into my purse and grabbed the butter knife I keep on hand at all times, (just in case u need to… uhh… spread something? Yeah.) and bust in.

Whilst raiding the fridgerator and cabinets Mr. Slick found cookie dough. I went to the cabinets and pulled out a cookie sheet then proceeded to pre-heating the oven to 350 degrees. After about 5 minutes the oven was all warmed up and ready for the cookies. We greased to cookie sheet then placed the dollops of cookie dough on the tray in perfect lines. I set the timer, and now we wait.

Mr. Slick, rather impatient, was raiding the cupboards for something to do while he waited for the cookies to get finished. On the other hand, I was looking for napkins and milk, got to make sure we have every ready before the cookies are finished.

BUUUZZZZZZ=http://! (the timer goes off) Cookies are ready! Mr. Slick bolts from his seat, straight to the oven. I try to tell him to wait for me to get him oven mitts, but he doesn’t hear me, he’s way too focused on getting those cookies put of the oven.

He rips the oven door open and reached in un-protected, he grabbed right on to the scolding hot cookie sheet, and cried in pain. He dropped the cookie sheet on top of the stove and ran to the sink, running cold tap water over his burns.

I close the oven and shut it off, then go over to the sink to look over Mr. Slicks hands. “Hmm.. got yourself good this time huh? That’s what you get for being impatient.” He sighed and agreed with me. I got him a bag of ice from the freezer, an ace bandage out of the cabinet, and wrapped his hands up.

I got two plates and two glasses from the cupboard; I filled both of our glasses with milk and filled our plates with cookies. I stacked a huge pile of napkins between the two of us, and we dig in to the still warm cookies.

Content and full to the top with delicious cookies, we sat and waited for the phone call declaring our freedom and thinking of the lesson we had learned.

We need to be patient in life, or else we could get burned. Be patient in life, it will get your farther. Impatiens will get you nowhere.
