 My essay!
Jake Ms. Transue English 10, March 2011 Have you ever gotten behind on your school work in your school years? Or let your locker get messy and was not able to find something. Or even to have money taken out of your own pocket which really hurts and can ruin a really upcoming summer. Well let me tell you something, I defiantly have and it turned out to be become my worst nightmare, seventh grade. After awhile in 7th grade I just stopped doing math altogether. One time my teacher said “Jake where are all your missing assignments” and I said “Oh I forget to do them” and I knew that was I lie because I didn’t want to do them. Then I didn’t find out what my habits really affected until the day that my teacher said “Jake you can’t go to the library because you are missing to much homework.” I must’ve missed so much and I honestly never realized it till then. That was my “wake up call” and after that I saw how much of a disaster my locker was. Let’s just say even a tornado in a metropolis couldn’t of been worse as my locker was at that time. Let me tell you something I had to pay a fine which came out of my wallet and speaking of that I never did see that book again… That year I went from being a high honors student in sixth grade to a near failure in 7th. Which ended up affecting how I thought of school to this day. I always regret that even to this day because it messed up my whole school career. It made me just think of school as being more of a job rather than just school. It made stressed me out so bad that one day I flipped on her and it ended me up in Mr. Mallory’s office. Even though he didn’t yell at me or anything because he knew what was going on and knew what it felt like he still made me realize that I got to get on task or else I could be spending another year in seventh grade. This is what I learned in 7th grade, you always have to keep up with your homework no matter what class it is and even if you hate it you still have to try to keep up with your grades. Also I learned to keep your locker looking clean and nice or in consequences with getting a fine slapped on a book and lost money in the future. Which by the way really stunk since my mother made me pay it with my own money. Also what was really hurtful was seeing the distress in your parents eyes when they see that low grade and they say “I know you can do better than that.” And that’s the truth because you know you can do better but your mad because your grades are so bad! So when the next year came up, “which by the way turned out to be a great year if I do say so myself” I shaped up my attitude and my sloppiness and got my mind focused on the game, school. With that attitude I brought my grades up from failing and barely passing to halfway decent in my glorious eighth grade year. And boy did it feel really good to finally be done with seventh grade year and have a fresh new year and a better start to my semester. So guess what Jake Cortright learned that year? Having fun isn’t all that “fun” when your grades in school suck and you aren’t allowed to go to somebody’s house or even just be able to hang out and be lazy on the weekends. Also I realized that you always have to keep on trying no matter how bad you think it is because in the end it’ll pay off when you get a “good job Jake!”from my math teacher. Or even when my mom said “Jake im so proud of you for getting a grade above a 85 in math!” That is the greatest feeling in the earth when you have a parent or even a teacher say that because it just boosts your self-esteem up and give you more achievement to strive for. This is what I learned this that year try your hardest and when you do that it will always pay off.
