Getting to Know One Another

Last week we were spending time getting to know each other since we are all new to the school.  The students worked on a little project to help me and anyone looking in the classroom get to know the kindergarteners a little better.  Each student was given a letter (their first initial) divided into 4 parts.  One with stripes, one with circles, one with stars and one blank.  If the child was a boy he coloured his stripes blue and green.  If the child was a girl she coloured hers pink and purple.  The circles tell how old the child is.  If they are 4 they coloured the circles green, if they are 5 they coloured them black.  Now the stars tell about the students birth order.  If they were an only child the stars were coloured yellow, orange forthe oldest, pink for middle and red for youngest.  Although some of the reds look like pink!  The blank section they got to colour their favorite colour.  This was a fun activity and its nice to look at a piece of paper and learn so much about each student.  It also helps brighten up the room!
