We are a class of Year 6,7 & 8 students, aged from about 9 years old through to 13 year olds. We live in a small rural community in the North Island of New Zealand. We have a fantastic school where we are offered lots of fun and challenging learning experiences.

Marae Trip On Tuesday the 1st of June Lake Rerewhakaaitu School went on a trip to the Ohinemutu Marae.
During the Marae trip we played a game called seven or whetu. When we played seven we had to focus and use our memory so that we didn’t get out. That game was probably what I enjoyed the most. I also enjoyed going with Matua Shylo and Room 1 on a tour around the Marae. My partners were Keenan and Nisha.

When we were there I learnt that big in Maori is nui and that little is iti. I also learnt what Rotoiti means. It means little lake. I found out that Rotorua means 2nd lake. I found that out also by splitting it up. Roto means lake and rua means 2, so 2nd lake. Matua Shylo also told us that Rerewhakaaitu means fast food but I don’t think that’s right because the Maori name for food is spelt kai but Rerewhakaaitu’s one is spelt kaai.
