There recently has been a question that has been asked, “Should theUS continue to celebrate Columbus day?”. Well I personally don't think Columbus day should be celebrated and I don't think that Columbus should be taking someone else's discovery and having a day made for him and yet the other man didn't get any credit. Christopher wasn't even the first to reach America, people where living there before he had arrived. I have many reasons to decide why we shouldn't continue to celebrate Columbus day.
Christopher Columbus enslaved the natives and forced them to work and labor in his plantations and all the profit went to the Europeans. Christopher took many of the diseases he gained in America and took them back to Europe and the Europeans didn't have cures or any idea how to save people from these diseases. We are celebrating a man who failed to discover Asia and appeared in America, but we are basically celebrating a failure.
The holiday includes many pro's and con's about why its good to celebrate this holiday. Most of the stores and restaurants stay open having specials and sales which would increase profit. The schools close for the day, which means kids, and teachers can sleep in for a day. So I think that's why we shouldn't continue to celebrate Columbus Day.
