Columbus Controversy We celebrate Columbus day in the US on the second Monday in October. He reached the New World in 1492 and changed the world overnight so to speak. There are mixed feelings about whether we should continue to celebrate Columbus Day. You can find many reasons of this everywhere. I think that we should not celebrate Columbus Day.
I don't think that the us should celebrate Columbus Day. The first reason is that he committed more crimes than ways he helped Europe. Also, he enslaved and exploited the native people on the island he landed on. The third reason was he wasn't even the first to discover the new world, there was Leif Ericson and the people who crossed the land bridge. So he doesn't even deserve to have a day in his honor. Those are the reasons I think that we should not continue to honor Columbus Day.
The Columbus Day controversy has been going on for a while and I think it should come to an end. So we can all be happy and just drop the subject and look to better things like health care. I think that Columbus could have conquered the new world in a more humane way instead of enslaving and exploiting them and just making the natives scared of him. Well that is what I think about the Columbus day controversy.
