First Swim
I run through the water trudging along
The cold water brisk against my toes
“Hurry up,” says the little voice in my head
She’s getting ahead of me. GO! GO!
The chill goes op along my spine
I come up from the water and shake it off
“Not so bad,” I say calmly to my chicken like sister
And she dives off ahead as I follow along behind her,
My board dragging behind me
I search for a wave
On the board I feel a bit unbalanced
As I swirl through the ocean
I look beside me
And there’s my sister
Not so chicken like anymore
Riding right beside me
We laugh until we are stopped by the rocky sand
“Again?” she says
I don’t say anything but she knows I agree
And we walk to our home
The ocean.
