Snowboard Cross Article Beep, beep, beep, BEEP! The barrier is gone and you shove off trying to get in front
over the early hills. Next to you people from across the world are trying to do the same
thing. Your over and in second place but, there is still hope because now you have to
speed down the track and leap high in the air over the jumps. Looking forward for a pass
and looking behind to block them from passing you at the same time is hard but you
also have stick the turns and landings. Whoosh! Your flying through the air and gaining
speed. Then your on the ground racing across the snow going around a bend the person
in front of you turns wide, suddenly an opening appears and you take it now your side
by side with your opponent and going over the next jump and you blow by him in midair!
You gain speed on the landing and the gap is now getting wider in between you and the
other racer. And your in the air again and it feels great. You can see the finish from
here... there is only one more jump! You land perfecting and are approaching the last
jump. You hear a whistling in your ears and look down, your thirty feet in the air and
soaring towards the finish line. You can see the fans cheering and yelling there lungs
out. You look behind and realize why they are so frantic... someone is right behind you!
THUD! You land and slide down as quickly as possible and right over the finish line! YOU
WON THE GOLD=http://=http://!
That is what we call Snowboard Cross. It is a relatively new Winter Olympic sport and
looks like a LOT of fun. There are fours snowboards in each round and they race over
hills and jumps and corners to see who is the fastest snowboarder. First round of
qualifications is called the qualification round. In each round whoever comes in second
and first goes on to the quarterfinals . First and second in those races go one to
semifinals. By then there are only 2 sets of racers so the first and second winners of
those races go against each other for gold.
Then there is the question: What do they do when there is no more snow? In the winter
Seth Wesscott may be the the great snowboarder, but when he is in the off season he
transforms into Lance Armstrong. To stay in shape at the Olympic level it takes a lot of
hard work. One of the most popular ways is to bike. Skiers bike, snowboards bike, ice
skaters bike. Other things they do is lifting weights and running and stretching.
Like in all sports there are some people that are better than others. Those guys are
the ones to watch. When you are watching Snowboard Cross you should always look for
Seth Wescott and Ricker Maelle. They have won before so it wouldn't be surprising if the
did again. But the sport is gaining in popularity at a fast rate so there will be talented
rookies coming up and just like in all sports, there are always SURPRISES.
Results: Seth Wescott gold, Mike Robertson silver, and Tony Raimon bronze.
