Romans In Scotland
My name is Lillie Galea and I was a roman solider. I fought in the war against the Celts. These people were very different then us in many ways. They mostly had different clothing then us and equipment then us. Now these Celts were very strong for a city, but I never thought that they could be so willing to fight us for their land. While we were fighting these wars, I began to notice all the different things about the Celts. The thing that really stood out from all their clothing was their torc. It was made out of copper or bronze, just like jewelry. Another thing was both of our faces. While our general kept all of us keep our faces clean, these Celts had a full grown beard and moustaches. But luckily for us Romans, they did happen to shave once in a while. I did notice that their helmet was different too. While ours was strong metal with lined fur underneath, the Celts were made of simple leather and metal. But these Celts also had elaborate carvings in their helmets. The designs ranged from birds to beasts. The last thing about their clothing was their shoes. While theirs was made of just plain leather open-toed shoes, ours was made from cow-hide, open-toed, with studded nails all around the the shoe to keep it together. Unlucky for us though the nails would always fall out usually every day. Now during this war, these Celts had different weaponry then us too. Us Romans had a two-foot sword hanging from our waist for easy access. We also had a spear with a ten inch point. These were special because when we hit the Celts shields, our spears stuck in and bent. Now you might think why we had did that. When the spear bent like that, it got stuck in the Celts shield and it was then unusable for them to throw it back. Now these Celts had weapons too. It was a long sword with a slashing and cutting blade. They also had a spear with a spiral at the top so that it could made a deep and deadly wound in us Romans. Now fighting in this war was indeed very punishable for us Romans and the Celts with all the sicknesses and the allies that we sent to make peace, but it seemed to me that these Celts were like us in many ways. They had our strength, similar clothing and weaponry, and courage. Sadly though, we really didn't get along with most of them. But luckily I survived this war and now you too can see what life was like for me and all the others in this war.
