 roman soldiers Today is the day we fight the celts, but first i have to take a bath in the bath house and get all my armour and then talk to my officer. First ill explain a little bit on where i sleep. I sleep in the barracks also known as the sleeping quarters. There are 20 rooms and 4 men per room. Our room is 50 meters long and 10 meters wide. Next its time to get all my armour on. My lorica covers my back and my chest. My armour doesn't hold me back its easy to move in. My cassis or helmet is bronze, its made of a strong skull cap with iron underneath, its curved to protect my neck. My sagum drapes over my back and is the color red so we stand out. It straps around my shoulders. My caligae or my boots are made of cowhide. We would repair them each night. We wore socks with out coligae. I have 3 weapons and 1 scutum, i have 2 pilums and and one spetha. My spetha is short, it has a 2 ft long blade. Its usally 2 inchess wide. We are taught to stab. My pilums are ten inches at the point and are made of soft iron. My scutum is made of thick wood, i have a peice of iron in the middle. We carry kit bags on our left shoulder. They weigh up to 60 pounds. Now its time to go talk to my officer in the head quarters. We meet our officers there and they have a water clock. I almost forgot to talk about the bath house! Our bath house is heated with drains. We have a gameboard in there. We use a toilet brush in there. Our commander has a house that he can have his family live in durning the winter. They have servents,he has everything of his own all in one building! We have to stop over at the workshops too. They carry everything from pick axe's to wheeled wagons. Our side the walls we have a perade ground. We train out there. Sometimes we have ceremonies out there too.. Today we invaded the celts, they dont live as good as we do and it was easy to get into there village. They dress alot different like they had a sheild made out of wood covered in leather. There helmets were made out of metal and leather. There boots were made out of leather and they had a copper bronxe necklace. There hair was either red or blondish. They shaved there faces but were still very hairy! They wore bright colorful clothing. They had a long weapon attached to a chain that went around there waist. There spears were pointed with iron heads. Now dont get me wrong but they had a weak village but strong men like us! There houses were round instead of cornered. They had crops of barley and oats. They had large heards of animals. They had a blacksmith to make thinkgs out of metal. We saw people eating lots of oats and beef and pigs aswell. They had under ground areas called cellers, and they had grains pits. we ened up making a truce with the celts and we will watch them because they cant take there power back from us nad we will know when they start training again to try and attack us. We have tall walls only we know how to get in! Well there's a ceremonie starting in a few so i have to go get ready!
