First Grade Readers
One of the my biggest goals as a grade 1 teacher, is to help all of my students develop a love for reading. It's obvious that the only way to become a better reader is to spend time every day reading. Starting on the first day of school, we began building our stamina, so that we can read independently for longer and longer periods of time. During this time, we practice using a variety of strategies when we get stuck on words. We also learn to think about what we have read by checking for understanding after each page. We also spend time reading with someone else. Partner reading helps students grow as readers because it increases their confidence and helps with reading fluency.
Here are some pictures of the grade 1 readers in action!

How wonderful it is to see you all so engaged in your reading! I too, see you doing many things that good readers do. Keep up the great job and enthusiasm as you continue to develop your reading skills.

I loved looking at the pictures that show how much you love reading! I like the way you sit close to each other and hold the book so each person can see. (Has your teacher read the book called the Daily Five? It sounds like you are doing lots of the things from that book!) I will show this to my Grade Ones
