Dearest Class,

Mr. Dugger's class is studying the same thing we are! Go to his blog and read the assignment "Dear King George III". Make sure to look at the Declaration to make sure that you include all three sections...just like the real thing.

This is your chance to show what you know...and really prove that you've been paying attention to all those Liberty's Kids videos! :)

Go Patriots! We can beat King Geo. III.

Love, Prof. McG

Welcome Back! (Spring Break)

Dearest Dragons,

Catch us up on where you've been, what you've done, and who you are--you know, just in case we forgot...

We will be turning your memories of break into a "Feature Article" ...as if it was published in the TFK magazine! So this can be your practice if you already know what the format should look like and sound like.

Can't wait to hear all about it,

Prof. McG

Iditarod Project

Dearest Dragons,

Ths is so exciting! Our first Global project. What a great way to learn how to work together with people from around the world!

1. Introduce yourself on your Group page. Include your online name, that you're from Dblogs, a few things that you like, and maybe a bit about how you feel about doing this project.

2. Complete the History assignments-due Friday, Feb. 13th! That means completely edited, no copyright infringement, layout makes sense and improves the message, and that every one of your team members has been included.

3. Wow! How are you going to make sure everyone on your team feels good about the work you've done? This is going to be a great lesson in collaboration and communication! I think the world will be a better place because of what you are learning how to do!

Also-Your next assignment comes from Mr. Ellis at Connaught School. Read his blog and complete the assignment as a new article on your blog.

Leave a comment for your team members from Connaught while you're there!

The Best Thing About...

Article posted January 5, 2009 at 04:01 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 1790

Happy New Year Dragons!
Welcome back!
What was the very best part of your break? Explain and convince all of us readers why it was the best part...(Does this sound a bit like an essay? hmmmm...it should)
Can't wait to hear you prove your point!
My quick example: The very best part of break was being snowed in! If I hadn't been snowed in I probably wouldn't have laid around all day and watched an entire season of Gilmore Girls in one day. Being snowed in made it easier to be lazy and order pizza instead of cooking. And the very best part of being snowed in was catching up with friends because we had nothing better to do!
(of course I would need to elaborate and fill in these ideas with details and imaginative descriptions to keep my audience hooked...and of course come up with 150+ words...Good Luck!)
Love, Prof. McG

Snow Days

Article posted December 17, 2008 at 06:41 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 632

Dearest Dragons,
Let it snow! Tell us about your ultimate SNOW DAY! What would you do? Would you stay bundled inside with a cup of hot cocoa? Sled all day in the frosty flakes? Build a huge igloo system or be like my crazy uncle and build a whole living room out of snow? (Yeah, we sat on snow couches around a fire pit...crazy, I know)
Describe it in detail...'cause you know how many words you gotta use.
Happy snowflakes coming down, Prof. McG

Short Story-Dialogue Descriptors

Dearest Dragons,
"I'm so excited to give you this next assignment," Prof. McG said with a twinkle and a sigh.
"Please write a short story--with dialogue...that means using quotation marks and paragraphs and describing how someone is talking," Prof. McG explained. "We'll start looking for good examples in our reading," she continued as she opened up her book. "And we'll see how we can use examples from our reading to make our writing better!" she exclaimed with a flourish that knocked her pointed hat right off her head.
Hee hee, I really can't wait!
Love, Prof. McG
